Cougars on a hot streak...win 8 in a row!!

After a slow start this season, the Cougars are turning the corner.  Starting at the Patton Duals on December 31, AC has rolled off 8 straight victories.  At the Patton Duals, Alexander Central went 4-1, capturing the runner-up trophy.  Coming back from the Christmas break, the Cougars have defeated Glenn, West Caldwell, South Caldwell, West Lincoln, Lincolnton, and Hibriten.  This has also given the Cougars a 2-0 start in conference and a share of the lead.  AC is back in action Friday night at home against Saint Stephens.

Cougars start 2011-2012 season

The Cougar Wrestling team finished 6th out of 12 teams in the Old Appalachian Invitational held at Watauga HS on Nov. 23.  Jonathan Zuniga led the way with a 2nd place finish, losing in the finals to #2 ranked Jesus Vera from West Henderson.  David Gonzalez, Zane Knight, Anthony Bowman, Jorge Cazares, and Derek Deal each finished 4th for the day.

On Nov. 29, the Cougars had their home opener against perennial powerhouse Newton-Conover.  Newton-Conover came into the match ranked #3 in the state in the latest coaches poll.  The Red Devils came away with a 41-18 victory, but not without a hard fought battle from the Cougars.  In the match, Jonathan Zuniga, Dustin Jones, Jared Gregory, and Derek Deal each had decisions, while freshman Zane Knight recorded the only pin of the evening.  The Cougars are back in action Saturday, December 3 for the Jamie Tuttle Memorial Tournament at Hibriten HS.  Wrestling starts at 9:30am.
